Who We Are & What We Do

Tau Kappa Epsilon - National Fraternity
The Mu-Theta Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon is one of over 200 TKE Chapters throughout the world. Founded in 1899, Tau Kappa Epsilon has grown substantially, undergoing many changes and exposing numerous men to the greatness of TKE along the way.
Our Chapter has its own history as well. With the hard work and dedication of men like Dale Keller Erdly and David Morgan, Tau Kappa Epsilon was brought to Lycoming College on April 12th, 1969. Every year, as new men are inducted or others graduate, a piece of history is being added. Every brother brings to the organization different views, cultural backgrounds and opinions. More importantly, every brother leaves with certain memories; this is what truly makes us a brotherhood ... for life.
Dissolving Myths
Many people have bad opinions about Greek organizations and Greek life in general. One of our major goals and efforts is to try and rid this stereotype from people's minds. Through our various service projects and community involvement, TKE Mu-Theta has shown that Greek organizations are not "what people think they are." Our brothers are involved in all aspects of campus life; resident advisors, peer counselors, tutors, and choir and band members just to name a few. Our brothers realize the importance of giving back to the community and college for all of the wonderful things that have been bestowed upon us over the years.
Brothers in the Bond
One major goal of Tau Kappa Epsilon is to "aid men in mental, moral, and cultural development." The growth of a man through our organization is something that we cherish. This growth can be seen in many ways; maturity, awareness and development in character. Another growth is that of brotherhood, found through friendships made. These friendships are life-long, and last across state lines, zip codes, and most importantly, through time. The memories made while an active brother are imbedded in our minds and never leave us. A closeness is found with our members, and this is what makes us different. It's definitely something special for a person to say that they don't have a group of friends, but a group of brothers. Friendship can come and go over time, but brotherhood lasts forever.
Involvement in the Community
The brothers of Tau Kappa Epsilon Mu-Theta make it a point to participate in various service projects including a haunted house, carwashes, walks and runs for AIDS, faculty and student lockup, and even humorous events like a "pie in the face" charity event. We find it essential to give something back to the community, and we try to help people who are less fortunate than ourselves. Community involvement is the ultimate thank you to an area that has been very kind to our brothers over the years.
Putting it All Together
Brotherhood is a special aspect that TKE Mu-Theta offers all of its members. Memories are made, bonds are formed and these gifts never leave us. The friendships made here last forever, and this is why we say that "TKE is for life."
