The brothers of the Mu-Theta Chapter of Tau Kappa
Epsilon, like many fraternity chapters around the nation,
are highly involved in philanthropy, both local and
national. Over the years we have gathered a large number
of community service events that take place annually,
with new events being added every year. This page lists
the most prominent of our annual events, and what the
event is benefiting.
For information on current events or upcoming events please look at our Calendar.

February - Bloodmobile
Every year the red cross comes to Lycoming College and dozens if not hundreds
of students and staff come out to support the cause. The fine men and women of the red cross
could always use assistance, however, and the men of Tau Kappa Epsilon are more than willing to
lend a helping hand.
March - Jail & Bail
Since 9/11 the Mu-Theta chapter has held the
Jail & Bail in order to support the Angela Kyte
scholarship, established in the name of Angela Kyte
who passed away on 9/11. Important members of the Williamsport
community volunteer to get 'arrested', as well as students
and staff on campus who are arrested at the requests
of others, and they all must 'pay a fine' (donation)
in order to be released from the jail, constructed in
the TKE Mu-Theta lounge. This event started in 2002
and went very well its founding year, and it is expected
to be a great success in the future as well.
March - Hunger Strike
The brothers of TKE, along with the family
of John Kneisly, all fast for 48 hours in order to raise
money for the Richard Kneisly Weight Awareness Fund,
started by Richard's son, John Kneisly. Other organizations
and individuals on campus also participate, adding donations
to this fund, designed to provide money for research
being done to cure morbid obesity, and to help poor
families pay for surgery relating to this genetic disorder.
This genetic disorder is the disease that killed Richard
Kneisly. Donations are raised through solicitation by
the people fasting, as well as from donations given
to the people fasting once the 48 hours are over in
order to pay for food, bringing everyone back up to
full strength.
October - Haunted House
The haunted house is perhaps the largest philanthropy event that the Mu-Theta chapter holds.
A large amount of work is put into a house or department store donated by a real estate agency in the area
so that it can be used for five days as a safe, yet frightful, house of horrors. Over half of the proceeds from
this event go to the Ronald Reagan Alzheimer's Association.
October - Hand-in-Hand Festival
The Hand-in-Hand festival is an annual event at Lycoming College where organizations run games for
disabled children. The Mu-Theta Chapter has become the regular runner of the 'Twister' board in Pennington Lounge.
November - Leaf Raking for Quakers
Every year the brothers of TKE visit local quaker families and help them clean their
yards and fields. And not only do we feel good for helping about, but often these grateful families
provide a wonderful home-cooked meal after a long days work.
December - Ushering at the Candlelight Service
The brothers of TKE help out the United Campus Ministry every Christmas by ushering
during their campus-wide candlelight service.
December - Big Brothers / Big Sisters
Every Christmas the Greek community comes together with the Big Brothers / Big Sisters program
to throw a Christmas party in the East Hall coffeehouse for over a hundred kids and their parents. Games, music, and
dancing is enjoyed by all in an afternoon of holiday cheer.
