Alpha Sigma Tau is the
first and only national sorority at Lycoming College.
The sorority was founded in 1899 and locally as the Gamma Pi chapter on
December 14, 1991. Alpha Sigma Tau prides itself on each sister being unique,
yet all share the special bond of sisterhood.
Being a national sorority, the
sisters have taken advantage of traveling to other chapters all over the U.S. to meet
sisters both young and old. The sisters of Alpha Sigma Tau, better known on
campus as AST, take part in many philanthropies on and off campus. Many
include Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and
the Circle K/Red Cross Blood Drive. We also participate in Daffodil Days,
promoting lung cancer awareness, and we support National Breast Cancer
Awareness Day. Our national philanthropy is Pine Mountain
Settlement School
in Harlan County, Kentucky. Gamma Pi is one of the highest chapters in
academics and also on campus. Our national also offers plentiful scholarships
to any eligible active sister. We pride ourselves in all we do in the
classroom and in the community, but we also thrive on social functions,
hosting dance parties that are open campus-wide with various co-sponsors.
The purpose of Alpha Sigma Tau
is to promote the ethical, cultural, and social development of its members.
The sisters of Gamma Pi strive to take the lessons learned within the
sorority and apply them to everyday life.
