Service "One great, strong, unselfish soul in every community could actually redeem the world" -Elbert Hubbard
Community Service is an
important part for Greek Life. Here at Lycoming each chapter has
their own special service/ philanthropy event as well as general
events for all the sororities and sometimes all the Greek houses,
male and female! As Service Chair, I schedule events to help the
chapters receive community service hours and collect the hours each
month to hand into the Community Service Center. If you have any questions about Panhellenic's community service projects please contact Ashley Deitrick at npc@lycoming.edu or deiashl@lycoming.edu
The Greek community at Lycoming College is very active in community service. Every year Panhellenic sponsors a Cinderella's Closet in East Hall Coffee House. Cinderella's Closet is made of formal/ prom dresses and accessories that have been donated. The dresses are then sold for a small cost to local girl, usually for proms. All the proceeds go to a local charity.
Alpha Rho Omega Alpha Rho is actively involved in many service endeavors. Along with our traditional Adopt-A-Highway, some of the things we have participated in are: donating items to the Brandy Lee Sudol Auction, participating in Relay for Life the "Take Back the Night" march, the "Clothes Line" project, volunteering at the Salvation Army, making Christmas cards for children at the Danville Hospital Children's Department, collecting money for the Red Cross, volunteering at the YWCA, pen-pals with Ashley Manor, and helping with the AIDS Resource Center in Williamsport. We are also involved with the campus and community risk management, distributing pamphlets on addiction awareness and AIDS. We also are involved in the "Quarter Mile of Quarters" project to raise funds for the Joe Young Memorial Scholarship. So save up your quarters!! Every little bit helps!
Alpha Sigma Tau AST participates in two Philanthropies, our national philanthropy, the Pine Mountain Settlement School, as well as Habitat for Humanity. In the past year, Gamma Pi has contributed and participated in the Relay for Life, raising money for Hurricane Katrina rescue relief, volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, Toys for Tots, Daffodil Days, AIDS Walk, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Red Cross - Helping Hand, as well as many other community services.
Alpha Xi Delta "Alpha Xi Delta believes in the dignity of each individual child. Children deserve the opportunities to develop to their fullest potential--intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically--in an environment conducive to the development of character, personal responsibility, good citizenship, and a sense of well being. Individually and collectively, Alpha Xi Delta members and chapters support organizations that nurture the child."
Beta Phi Gamma Sisters of Beta Phi Gamma understand the importance of community service and are always available and willing to lend a helping hand. Our sisters participate in several service events and activities for various causes on Lycoming College's campus and in the community each semester. Sisters take part in events such as Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society, Hand in Hand and the American Red Cross Blood Drive, as well as collecting aluminum can tabs for The Ronald McDonald House. Beta Phi Gamma is excited to announce that we have voted to begin an annual philanthropy project benefiting the Make- A- Wish Foundation.
The sisters of Gamma Delta Sigma have always enjoyed our work with both the community, the college, and other organizations. We are actively involved in service projects such as Volley for a Cure, Adopt-A-Highway, Providence House for unwed mothers, Ronald McDonald House, donating clothes to the Salvation Army, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Every year Gamma Delt holds an auction in memory of one of their sisters who passed away, Brandy Sudol. The auction is held on campus and the proceeds benefit the Brandy Sudol Scholarship Fund.
