Constitution

Preamble
We, the members of the Lycoming College Black Student Union, do hereby establish this constitution in order that our purpose is realized to the fullest extent.

Article 1:  The name of this organization shall be Black Student Union

Article 2: Purpose

The Black Student Union seeks to establish an organization to expand the black awareness on campus.  Thereby our goal is to extend the outreach to all student and faculty alike.  This will be an organization where students can go and discuss relevant issues of importance here at Lycoming. Our purpose as an organization is to broaden the horizons of the campus in the pursuit of bettering the college atmosphere as a whole.  

Article 3: Membership

All are and will be welcome to attend any posted meeting or event.  Students no matter what race, background, or other will NOT be discriminated against or should feel such.  

Active participation is required to remain a member of the Black Student Union. Each member is required to attend one meeting a month.

Article 4: Leadership

The Black Student Union will be governed by the following means:

    a.  The Executive Board of the Black Student Union shall consist of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and the Admissions Assistant.
    b.  Members of the Executive Board shall be elected under the guidelines stated in the By-Laws.
    c.  Members of the Executive Board of Black Student Union will fulfill the responsibilities of their position as stated below.

Responsibilities of the Executive Board Members:

A. President

    1. Shall be elected in accordance with the Constitution
    2. The President is by no means exempt from the laws of the Constitution.
    3. Shall be head of the Black Student Union and preside over all meetings.
    4. Votes only in the event of a tie
    5. Has the power to appoint committees and/or officers not stated for in the constitution, with the majority approval of the Executive Board.
    6. Shall have further powers and duties as required by the Black Student Union.

B. Vice President

    1. Shall be elected in accordance with the Constitution and by-laws.
    2. Shall perform the duties of President in the event that the President is absent or temporarily detained.
    3. In the event that the President should resign from office, the Vice-President shall succeed the President for the remainder of the term.
    4. The Vice-President also will serve as the events coordinator.

C. Secretary

    1.  Shall be elected in accordance with Constitution and by-laws.
    2.  Keep accurate and complete minutes of all Executive Board and General Assembly meetings.
    3.  Shall be responsible for the distribution of minutes two days following the meeting.
    4.  Shall be responsible for recording attendance at Executive Board and Assembly meetings.
    5. Shall have a set agenda prepared the day before an executive meeting.

D. Treasurer

    1.  Shall be elected in accordance with the Constitution and By-Laws.
    2.  Keep accurate accounts of all budgets and expenditures.
    3.  Shall coordinate with the President in the planning of the budget and booking schedule.
    4.  Coordinate all fundraising efforts
    5. Prepare to budget to Student Senate yearly.

E. Web Master

    1. Shall be elected in accordance with the Constitution and by-laws.
    2. Shall post minutes on a bi-weekly basis.
    3. Shall update website on monthly basis.
    4. Must maintain website in accordance with school regulations.

F. Admissions Assistant

    1. Shall be elected in accordance with the Constitution and by-laws.
    2.  Shall have the responsibility of working with the Admissions House.
    3.  Shall talk to perspective and/or accepted students about the Black Student Union.
    4.  Will share and instill the purpose and goals of the Black Student Union and encourage new membership in a positive way.
    5. Attend all open houses and accepted student days

Article 5: Voting Eligibility

Those members with voting privileges are as follows:

    1.  All those to who meet the requirements in Article 3, are thereby eligible to vote when the time arises for election.

Article 6:  Meetings

    1.  Meetings will be held on a bi-weekly basis
    2.  Attendance will be kept regularly at every meeting and event.
