| Just What is a National
Sorority?
A national sorority is a sorority that has more than one chapter world wide. The chapter is not solely at one university. Alpha Sigma Tau is a national sorority hosting over 65 chapters over the United States, and this number expands every year. The Alpha Sigma Tau chapter at Lycoming is known as the Gamma Pi chapter, whereas the James Madison chapter is the Psi chapter. AST is on of two national sororities that we have at Lycoming College. What are other AST chapters like?

| What Does AST Gamma Pi Chapter Do? Actually, what don't we do? AST participates in two Philanthropies, our national philanthropy, the Pine Mountain Settlement School, as well as Habitat for Humanity. In the past year, Gamma Pi has contributed and participated in the Relay for Life, raising money for Hurricane Katrina rescue relief, volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, Toys for Tots, Daffodil Days, AIDS Walk, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Red Cross - Helping Hand, as well as many other community services. At Lycoming college the sisters are very active around campus and can be seen in Student Senate, Colleges Against Cancer, Circle K, CAB, multiple sports teams, Dance Club, Student Orientation Staff, National Broadcasting Society, Psychology Club, Best Buddies, multiple honor organizations, and LEAP, just to mention a few.

| What Is Gamma Pi? On November 4, 1899, eight college women from Michigan State Normal College (now Eastern Michigan University) formed the Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The founders are: Helen Rice, Adriance Rice, Eva O'Keefe, Harriet Marx, May Gephart, Mayene Tracy, Mable Chase and Ruth Dutcher. The Gamma Pi Chapter of Alpha Sigma Tau was founded at Lycoming College on December 14, 1991 by a group of young women who decided to start their own national sorority organization on the campus of Lycoming College. So, 19 young women came together to form the Gamma Pi Chapter of the Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority to build foundations on our local motto: "Everything we achieve was once just a dream." The founders of the Gamma Pi Chapter are: Dana Miller, Stacy Miller, Susan Pennachio, Kirsten Rambo, Merri Rambo, Lisa Rotunda, Tammy Shaw, Kristen Spengler, Jody Beckman, Susan Boylan, Nancy Dech, Julie Dietz, Dana Ellis, Cathy Geisinger, Sandi Groman, Dana Harman, Danielle Kegelman, Tara Law, & Angie Miller.
