At Lycoming College, we prepare young people for the 21st century. We are committed to launching our graduates into successful careers and lives of meaning. At Lycoming, we change lives and we change the world. We believe in this vision and we act upon it every day.

Inspired by our mission, we launched The Campaign for a Greater Lycoming in October 2016 with the goal of raising at least $65 million. We dared to dream and we dared to do.

It is with great pride that we celebrate the successful completion of a campaign that affirms our belief that the liberal arts and sciences remain relevant. We know that our world still needs institutions committed to the liberal arts and sciences. We know that Lycoming is a precious asset to our world and we celebrate our commitment to it.

We believe in the capacities of human beings educated in the liberal arts. We know that the world needs people who can exercise imagination, act with empathy, and deploy the ability to think critically. We believe in the potential of those who are educated at Lycoming College.

We understand that the future of our nation and our world requires that we engage the vision, talents, and passion of every high-achieving and ambitious young person regardless of cultural background or economic status.

To realize that vision, we know that institutions of higher education must be committed to providing opportunity. We are proud that Lycoming College is a national leader in creating access and supporting success.

Throughout the Campaign, we focused on four priorities. First, we sought to leverage our collective strength so that we could innovate in the present. We exceeded our goal because you gave $11,975,785. Your gifts allowed us to increase internships, expand study abroad and student research experiences, help students facing financial challenges complete degrees, invest in our athletic programs, and so much more.

We committed to transform our campus and you contributed $15,006,114 that made possible the Lynn Science Center, Penny’s Plaza, improvements to athletics and arts facilities, and most recently, the Krapf Gateway Center and a new entrance to the College.

We set out to create the coveted degree of the future and you responded with $23,176,753 in gifts that spawned our Center for Enhanced Academic Experiences, launched programs in Outdoor Leadership and Education, entrepreneurship and biochemistry, enhanced the Clean Water Institute, and endowed Creative Writing, the education program, the wrestling team, and more.

Finally, we asked that you invest in endowed scholarships and you affirmed the importance of this goal by making gifts totaling $25,112,065. Your generosity will fuel a new generation of Warriors, allowing Lycoming College to continue changing lives.

In total, 12,055 donors participated and made gifts and commitments totaling $75,270,717.

But there is more…

During the Campaign, we also secured $3,961,127 in grants from the federal and state governments. These grants directly supported campaign priorities including the construction of the Krapf Gateway Center and scholarships for students pursuing careers and teaching in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

I am ecstatic to announce that the grand total in support of The Campaign for a Greater Lycoming is $79,231,844.

On behalf of the students, faculty, and staff, I simply say thank you. Thank you for believing in Lycoming College. Thank you for investing in our students and faculty. Thank you for daring to dream. Thank you for daring to do. Thank you for making possible A Greater Lycoming.

Kent C. Trachte, Ph.D., is the 15th president of Lycoming College.
