The Film and Video Arts program in the Department of Communication at Lycoming College will host the 2018 Pennsylvania College Film & Video Festival on Thursday, Sept. 27 beginning promptly at 7:00 p.m. at the AMC Classic Williamsport 11 cinema. The event will showcase the creative story-telling talents of select up-and-coming artists currently enrolled in post-secondary school in Pennsylvania, including Lycoming College students. This screening is free and open to students, staff, and faculty, as well as the general public, but seating is limited.
Beginning in 2008 as a local film screening, the Festival has since grown to encompass submissions from across the state. This year, undergraduates from colleges and universities across Pennsylvania submitted work under three separate categories: narrative, documentary, and experimental or animation (including music videos).
“We are thrilled to have received over 60 submissions this year from colleges and universities all over the state. Our festival program is a diverse collection of very strong student work from schools such as Temple University, Point Park University, Drexel University, Lycoming College, Penn State University, and Bucks County Community College,” explains Leah Bedrosian Peterson, associate professor of film and video art and chair of the communications department at Lycoming College.
Awards will be given to the best film in each category from all submissions, and the Tom Woodruff, Jr., Grand Jury Prize will be given for the best submission by a Lycoming student. This year’s jury is comprised of industry professionals Stephen St. Francis Decky, Jim Dougherty, Lynn Estomin, and Leah Bedrosian Peterson.
