College Night to be held for area high school students

Lycoming College will host “College Night” on Thursday, Sept. 29, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Lamade Gymnasium. Area high school students interested in continuing their education will have the opportunity to speak with representatives from more than 65 institutions of higher education. The annual event is free and open to the public.

“This event allows students to learn about many colleges and how they distinguish themselves and boost the careers of their graduates, all in a single night,” said Mike Konopski, vice president for enrollment management at Lycoming College. “We’re thrilled to be once again hosting the event this year.”

School representatives will share details about majors, internships, research opportunities and scholarships beyond what is available on their respective institutions’ websites. Speaking directly with a representative also helps a student’s application stand out among the hundreds each college receives each year.

This year, Lycoming College will offer a Financial Aid Seminar to share the ins and outs of financial aid systems and to discuss the recent changes that will affect the application process.

“Selecting a college is one of the most important decisions a high school senior will make,” said Carole Heckel, treasurer of the Lycoming County Counselors Association, which sponsors the event. “Our members, as working high school counselors, know students have lots of individualized questions that are best answered by college representatives to help them narrow their search for the best school.”
