Lycoming College dedicated a series of benches that celebrate Williamsport’s history as the lumber capital of the world in the 1800s, as part of the Homecoming 2015 festivities on Oct. 24.

The artfully-designed benches, named “Logjam,” were installed on the north lawn of the Academic Center to serve as a beautiful and functional outdoor classroom and gathering space. The arrangement of the benches mimics the piles of logs that once floated down the Susquehanna River, and traditional log cutting techniques are reflected in the way the boards cover the surface of the structure.

The class of 2015 funded the gift through one of the most successful senior class campaigns in Lycoming’s history and the gift represents donations by members of the class, their families and the campus community.
