The Lycoming College Music Department and Campus Activities Board will host their second Leaf Jump fundraiser, on Friday, Nov. 7 and Saturday, Nov. 8, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the quad of the Lycoming College campus. The event is open to the public.
The Leaf Jump fundraiser raises funds for a Lycoming County public school music program facing financial difficulty, by providing assistance with the purchase of musical instruments. Teachers from surrounding school districts submit a one-page award application which is reviewed by the college’s music faculty members to determine which program the funds will be awarded to. Last year, Lycoming faculty, staff and students raised $300 for the Shamokin Area High School/Middle School Music Program. This year, they are inviting the community to participate in the event.
Attendees will have the opportunity to embrace their inner child and dive into a large pile of leaves for 50 cents per jump or five dollars to jump for 10 minutes. Hot chocolate will also be available for purchase.
“We want to increase Lycoming College’s outreach to local music programs,” said Chris Jackson, director of choral activities and assistant professor of music. “Working is important, but it’s equally important that we all have an excuse to have a little fun every once and a while.”
