Lycoming College senior Brianne Shaw will direct "Keeping Tom Nice," a play by Lucy Gannon, Friday and Saturday, March 4-5, at 8 p.m. in the College's Dragon's Lair Theatre. Tickets, free but limited, are available through the Mary L. Welch Theatre box office. The play is intended for mature audiences only.
"Directing this play has been by far the best experience of my college career," says Shaw. "It has allowed me to test my capabilities as a director and also explore a world that was foreign to me."
Students participating in the production include cast members Alyssa Allen, Toby Anderson, Kyle Kelly, Krista Peterson and Taylor Anspach, as well as stage manager Amanda Barrett.
"Keeping Tom Nice" is a play about two characters named Doug and Winnie and their attempts to regulate and come to terms with their handicapped son, Tom, whom they have always tried to keep "nice." Family tensions build when a young social worker named Stephen takes a professional interest in their situation and Tom's sister, Charlie, arrives home from college. Tragic consequences ensue as Tom's parents reach their breaking points.
