The Lycoming College Theatre Department will present Rebecca Feldman's "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" at the Mary L. Welch Theatre Oct. 1-2 and 7-9. The musical, which begins at 8 p.m. each performance, is suitable for audiences age 13 and older. The play is directed by Jerry Allen, assistant professor of theatre.
"The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" is a tale of six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who have barely managed to escape childhood themselves. They must learn that winning isn't everything and losing doesn't necessarily make you a loser. The musical's Tony award-winning creative team has devised the unlikeliest of hit musicals about the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time.
The cast includes Joshua Troxler, Christina Moliterno, Taylor Anspach, Chase Mack, Taylor Lubsen, Andrea Fitzsimmons, Alyssa Allen, Kevin Milliard, Billy Reilly, Kyle Kelly, Toby Anderson, Trish Duncan, Jesse Shade, Kahla Moon, Molly Collier, Tyler Wuerthner, and Dru Keyser.
"Dinner and a Show" is scheduled for opening night on Friday, Oct. 1, at 6:30 p.m. in the Jane Shultz Room, Wertz Center. The meal includes spinach-apple salad with maple cider vinaigrette with an additional dressing choice, grilled flank steak with port sauce, duchess mashed potatoes, grilled vegetables and cinnamon-plum fool dessert. Dinner reservations are due by Sept. 29.
