WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Lycoming College Tour Choir will hold a "Send-Off" concert in preparation for its upcoming 12-day tour of Argentina. The free and open to the public concert will be held Friday, May 14, at 7 p.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, located at 142 Market St. in Williamsport.This year's visit to Argentina, scheduled for May 15-26, will feature five concerts in four cities: Buenos Aires, Rosario, Cordoba and Mendoza.
Under the direction of Dr. Fred Thayer, the tour choir is selected annually by competitive audition from the larger, 105-voice Lycoming College Choir, which is made up of students from all academic fields at the College. Approximately 40 students are chosen to perform in two weekend tours, an extended spring tour and a trip abroad every four years.
In its six decades of music, the tour choir has presented concerts in every state east of the Mississippi River as well as in California, Texas, Louisiana, Canada, Puerto Rico and Europe. It has performed at the National Cathedral, the Washington Shrine, Saint Patrick's Cathedral and St. John the Divine in New York City and the Crystal Cathedral in California. The ensemble also has sung with the Gregg Smith Singers, the Chieftains and Barry Manilow. The choir has been featured twice in the holiday celebrations at the White House.
