Throughout the summer, high school students from across the state will be traveling to spend a week on the Lycoming College campus and participate in the festivities of Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week. The purpose of PFEW is to educate students about private enterprise and what challenges Pennsylvania companies must face in order to remain competitive in the national marketplace. This summer marks the 19th year Lycoming has hosted the PFEW events.
Not only will students have the chance to compete in group projects for the best business plans, but they will also be given the opportunity to learn about various business aspects such as marketing, management and entrepreneurship from inspirational guest speakers.
This year’s presenters include David J. Sterrett, P.E., regional business development manager of Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc.; William C. Kunkelman III, vice president of marketing at Adventure Communications; Charles Umphred, vice president of marketing at ScentSations, Inc.; Jack Chambers, executive director of Creative Educational Concepts; Lowman S. Henry, chairman and CEO of Lincoln Institute of Public Opinion Research, Inc.; Charles L. Witmer, Centre County Controller; Frank Kennedy, chief entrepreneurship officer of MagicBiz, Inc.; Michael S. Cohen, Esq., partner at WolfBlock, LLP; Kevin W. Davis, retired president of the Davis Group; Kenneth Snyder, CFO of Meltdown Sports; Matthew J. Brouillette, president of the Commonwealth Foundation for Public Policy Alternatives; and Robb Armstrong, syndicated cartoonist and author of United Feature Syndicate, Inc.
There will be a total of four PFEW sessions, each lasting the duration of a week. The first session was held July 6-12. Future assemblies will be July 13-19, July 27-Aug. 2 and Aug. 3-9. Due to the growing popularity, PFEW has expanded its program and will host various programs at both Lycoming College and the Pennsylvania College of Technology campus.
