Five new Alumni Association Executive Board members named  

Five alums have been elected to the Lycoming College Alumni Association Executive Board. The new members include Deanna Barthlow-Potkanowicz, Joe Bunce, Michele Connors, Bill Hessert and Joe Lorah. The AAEB consists of 32 alumni who are elected to lead and represent current and former students in a mutually beneficial relationship with the College. The board is a diverse group of alumni representing class years, geographic regions, and interests of the College’s alumni community.

Deanna Barthlow-Potkanowicz

Barthlow-Potkanowicz graduated from Lycoming in 1996 with a degree in psychology. She went on to earn an M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology, both from Kent State University.

Barthlow-Potkanowicz is employed at Counseling and Psychological Services in the Hudson Health Center in Athens, Ohio. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Ohio Psychological Association, Phi Kappa Phi, and Sigma Xi Research Society.

While at Lycoming, Barthlow-Potkanowicz was in the Scholars Program, a career consultant in the Career Development Center, a peer counselor, and a member of the Psychology Club, IRUSKA, and Phi Kappa Phi.

Barthlow-Potkanowicz and her husband, Edward Potkanowicz, reside in Athens.

Joe Bunce

Bunce graduated from Lycoming in 1963 with a degree in Spanish. He also earned a degree from the Garvin School of International Management.

Bunce has worked in marketing and sales for 38 years. He is a sales representative for D.O.E. Technologies in Wilmington, Del., where he has been employed since 1971. He is a past vice president of the Wilmington Jaycees, and past president of the Holiday Hills and Sharpley Civic Association.

While at Lycoming, Bunce played on the tennis team and was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He was inducted into the Lycoming College Sports Hall of Fame in 1997.

Bunce and his wife, Jane, reside in Wilmington.

Michele Connors

Connors graduated from Lycoming in 2006 with a degree in English literature and a secondary education certification.

Connors is employed as an English teacher at Annapolis High School in the Anne Arundel County Public Schools. She is a member of Girl Scouts of America, Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA), National Education Association (NEA), English Honor Society, Education Honor Society, and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).

While at Lycoming, Connors was Senior Class President, a SEARCH team leader, and a United Campus Ministry leader. She was also involved in Best Buddies, the “Lycourier,” Student Senate, Lycoming College Democrats, Habitat for Humanity, the English Society, Dance Club, and the English and Education honor societies.

Connors resides in Annapolis, Md.

Bill Hessert

Hessert graduated from Lycoming in 1985 with a degree in accounting. He went on to earn a master’s of journalism degree from Temple University.

Hessert is the president and founder of Bill Hessert Ink. He was also a former member of the College and University Public Relations Association of Pennsylvania and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.

While at Lycoming, Hessert was involved in concert choir, chamber choir, and tour choir.

He and his wife, Jennifer, reside in Port Matilda, Pa.

Joe Lorah

Lorah graduated from Lycoming in 1994 with a degree in mass communications. He went on to earn his MBA from DeSales University.

Lorah is the director of marketing at Blue Ridge Communications in Palmerton, Pa. He has won numerous awards for his marketing and leadership skills. He is also a member of the Pennsylvania Freemasons and the Cable and Telecommunications Association for Marketing.

While at Lycoming, Lorah was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. 

He and his wife, Sherry, reside in Bethlehem, Pa.
