This digitized collection of eighteen student publications spans the life of the College from its inception as the Dickinson Seminary, through its years as a junior college, to its present standing as a four-year undergraduate institution. It provides a graphic picture of campus life from the mid-1850's to 2004. The most current issues will be added shortly.

These publications vary widely in their content and presentation styles. Student efforts at publishing works to be distributed to the campus began in the form of a literary magazine, and changed to simple mimeographed newsletters, an "underground" newspaper, and finally to our present conception of student coverage of campus events with editorial comments on issues affecting their lives.

To search our digital newspaper collection:

1. In the lower box, under Select specific collections, find and click on Lycoming College Student Newspapers, 1856-present.
2. Click the add>> button.
3. Follow these directions for specific types of searches:

To browse issues of a specific newspaper by Title:

1. Select Selected fields.
2. Search for the name of the newspaper in the Title field.
3. Click the blue search button.

To search by Keyword:

1. Select Across all fields.
2. Type word(s) in the first search box.
3. To search a phrase, such as an individual's first and last name, type the words in The exact phrase search box.
4. Click the blue search button.

To search for a topic from a specific year:

1. Select Selected fields.
2. Type the desired year in the search box to the right of All of the words.
3. Select Year from the drop-down menu.
4. Search for the topic in the Full text field.
5. Click the blue search button.

To search for a topic across a range of years :

1. Select By date.
2. Type words (All of the words) or a phrase (The exact phrase) in the search box.
3. Select Full text from the drop-down menu.
4. Enter the desired date range..
5. Click the blue search button.

To search for a topic in a specific newspaper :

1. Select Selected fields.
2. Search for the name of the newspaper in the Title field.
3. Search for the topic in the Full text field.
4. Click the blue search button.
