For PCs with Windows 7, students are required to use Microsoft Security Essentials as the antivirus software in order to gain access to the campus network. Security Essentials is available as a free download from Microsoft's website.
Microsoft Security Essentials provides real-time protection for your PC guarding against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. Microsoft Security Essentials is a free download from Microsoft that is simple to install, easy to use, and is automatically updated to protect your PC with the latest technology.
Microsoft Security Essentials is required for all students wishing to access the campus network, using Windows 7 computers. Mac users should use ClamXav.

You must remove any and all antivirus software prior to installing Security Essentials. When you have two antiviruses installed on a single machine they are going to do one of two things – either they will block each other because they will use or scan the same process at the same time or they will try to eliminate each other, since the antivirus software has some of the same signatures of the viruses that you are trying to fight. AV software needs these signatures to be able to recognize the bad software on a computer. When you are installing a piece of antivirus software on your computer, make sure that it is the only one. If not then your system might become inoperable and, ultimately infected.
Mac users: ClamXav
Students who use Windows 8 should remove any and all antivirus software and enable Windows Defender.
