WebCT is a tool that facilitates the creation of sophisticated World
Wide Web-based educational environments. It can be used to create entire
on-line courses or to simply publish materials that supplement existing
courses. WebCT requires minimal technical expertise on the part of the
course developer and on the part of the student. WebCT was developed in
the Department of Computer Science at the University of British Columbia.
The faculty member in charge of the project, Murray W. Goldberg, has had
experience building, delivering and studying the success of web-based
courses and of web-based material used to supplement existing courses.
With its deep roots in higher education and technology
- and demonstrated
responsiveness to faculty, students, and administrators - WebCT is
committed to providing the best, easiest-to-use, and most flexible enterprise-wide
online course solution on the market. Through its powerful partnerships
with publishers and users, WebCT will continue to expand and transform
educational horizons through the power of Web-based technology.
WebCT provides the faculty member with tools for creating an interactive online classroom. An introduction to educational technology that supports a full range of teaching and learning styles and optimizes intellectual and technical resources will be given. This introduction will be presented with the student view and designer (faculty member) view in mind.
