| Network connections are
available in public areas, including all classrooms and all desktops
in both residence halls and administrative offices. Each
building is equipped with at least one hub. These
concentrators provide port connections for the UTP cable coming from
each network node. The buildings that are being serviced by
the newer hubs have 100 MB between buildings and 10 MB switched to
the desktop.
The network-cabling infrastructure has its logical center in IT Services. It supports multiple
segments at 100 MB. All buildings, both administrative and
residential, are connected to the network through the switch, which
features software based virtual LAN segments and switched ethernet
up to 100 MB
A Cisco router currently resides in Rich Hall as the

A Packeteer PacketShaper is being used to manage all internet
traffic and bandwith. It allows us to analyze, monitor,
and control all activity in order to ensure critical applications are moving at an acceptable rate. It is a PacketShaper 2500
running software version 5.1.1.
Firewall services provide protection for our internal network
against the outside world. It will keep intruders out while
still permitting services such as e-mail, telnet, and World Wide Web
use. Network translation services create the ability to expand
and reconfigure TCP/IP networks without worrying about a shortage of
IP addresses.
SMNPc 5 software is currently being used to monitor the campus
infrastructure. It allows us to monitor, at a glance, the
status of any network segment.
