FACULTY AND STAFF: Meet Georg Grassmueck


Assistant Professor

BS in International Business from Sacred Heart University
MBA with a concentration in Finance from the John F. Welch School of Business at Sacred Heart University
Pennsylvania State University at University Park in Regional Economics

        Dr. Georg Grassmueck is an assistant professor of business at Lycoming College and the newest addition to the department. He has received a PhD from the Pennsylvania State University in Regional Economics with an emphasis on public finance issues. In addition, Dr. Grassmueck holds a MBA with a concentration in Finance from the John F. Welch School of Business at Sacred Heart University and a BS in International Business from Sacred Heart University. Professor Grassmueck studied for 4 years abroad at the Karl Franzens Universitat in Graz Austria majoring in economics and business.

        Dr. Grassmueck worked for the Northeast Regional Center for Economic Development and the Center for Community Development at the Pennsylvania State University prior to joining Lycoming College. He also worked for Optima Group, a consulting company in Connecticut for 2 years before pursuing his academic career.

        Dr. Grassmueck presented professional papers at the North American Regional Science Conferences and Southern Regional Science conferences on topics such as youth migration, urban sprawl, location decisions of households and firms in response to public finance incentives, and government fragmentation. Dr. Grassmueck has developed an index of government fragmentation based on local public finance information. Besides his main research interest in public finance, he has provided technical assistance with a book on International finance issues concerning the EU expansion into central and eastern Europe.

        Insider info: Professor Grassmueck lives in Williamsport with his wife. He loves to travel and is more then willing to share is experiences with others. Dr. Grassmueck was born in Austria and lived in this country in the Alps until the age of 18. He is fluent in German (Austrian dialect) and is looking forward to speak German with you. There are NO kangaroos in Austria only excellent skiers.
