ALLERGY INJECTIONS
Policy:
The Health Services Staff (RN, CRNP, MD) will provide allergy injections to college students Monday - Friday and only while a physician is present. The student will provide the injection serum and written orders from the treating physician.
Criteria:
1. Student must have written documentation from the treating physician. To include:
*Name and address of student
*Name and address of treating physician
*Diagnosis, including list of allergies
*Treatment prescribed
*Phone number for treating physician
*Protocol if injections are late, missed or cause local reaction
2. Student must have a well-established course of treatment prior to receiving any injection in Health Services. At least 3 doses of a newly initiated treatment regime must be given by the student's allergist.
3. Medication vials must be clearly labeled to include student's name and expiration date.
4. College Physician must be in the Health Services Department at the time of the injection.
5. Student must remain in Health Services Department for at least fifteen minutes after the injection occurs.
6. If any questions exist regarding any aspect of student's allergy serum or treatment schedule, the student will not be able to receive any injections until after the treating physician has been contacted.
7. Students not complying with the above criteria will NOT
be allowed to receive allergy injections in Health Services.
