Environmental Audit

The environmental audit of Lycoming College is meant to be a quantitative way to record and present the campus' consumer habits in hopes to promote more sustainable way of living. This "living document" was first created by business students Tyler Hutson, Dan Cassidy, Bethany Herring, Emily Hopko, and Megan Runyon under the direction of Dr. Neil Boyd. The most recent revision was made by Megan Schulze and Nick Lansberry under the direction of Dr. Mel Zimmerman. Each year and more data is available, the trends will become more visible the goal is to provide a visual aid and suggest ways that the college can lower it's consumption, and ultimately it's carbon footprint.

At present, Lycoming's environmental audit explores energy use, utility cost, water, solid waste, and natural gas consumption, as well as recycling efforts. Recent research is exploring sustainable purchasing practices, E-waste removal, and community efforts to "go green." An extension of the environmental audit will be an actual calculation of Lycoming College's carbon footprint using the Clean Air Cool Planet Campus Carbon Calculator. This calculation will require an in-depth look at every aspect of Lycoming's carbon usage, including faculty, staff, students, and administrators. The Cool Planet calculation is an intensive endeavor, but annual updates of the environmental audit will add data and awareness to push the sustainability movement at Lycoming College.
