Dr. Amy Rogers, a professor in the Education Department, has been teaching at Lycoming College since 2007. She earned her B.A. at Lycoming College, received her M.A. from Bloomsburg University, and earned her doctorate at Pennsylvania State University. Amy’s work studied the effects of local history in relation to a student’s level of civic mindedness and civic engagement. Her research areas include civic education, civic engagement, local history, teacher leadership, and pre-service teacher education.
With over thirteen years teaching experience, Dr. Rogers brings applicable hands-on experiences to share with her classes. Amy taught social studies education in the East Lycoming School District in both middle and secondary classrooms. She incorporated reading and writing into her passion for the study of history by implementing a literature based approach to teaching social studies. After eleven years in the classroom, Amy became a Literacy Coach for the ELSD, a position that allowed her to coach content area teachers and students on reading and writing strategies. Amy continues to work with area school districts through the teacher placement program at Lycoming. Dr. Rogers is a proud member of Lycoming’s Education Department and loves assisting in shaping competent, caring, and ethical educators.
Responsible for the Secondary Teacher Education Program, Amy teaches courses and is an advisor to education students seeking middle and/or secondary certification. In addition, Amy is the advisor for Kappa Delta Pi, International Education Honor Society, and the Student Pennsylvania State Education Association. Amy resides in Hughesville with her husband, Ed, and their three children, Alyssa, Carly, and Patrick. In her spare time, she enjoys attending her children’s events, walking, horse riding, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.
