GREETINGS
My
name is Andrew Weber and I am a senior from Ambler, Pennsylvania.
Four years ago, I decided to attend Lycoming College because of
its size and opportunities, hoping to participate in the activities
that I wanted. At Lycoming I have been able to participate even
more than I expected.
As an economics major and finance minor my normal
class load has been supplemented with enriching activities, like
studying in Europe for a month as part of the European Business
Experience, and my internship with the Lycoming County Economic
Development and Planning Services Department. I found a very interesting
parallel between these two experiences despite them being on two
different continents. During my internship, we looked at economic
development within Williamsport and Lycoming County. While in London,
our group met with Pennsylvania businessmen developing international
relationships between Pennsylvania and European companies. Many
of the same actions and systems were used despite the differences
of the activities.
I find the personal interaction between professors and students
at Lycoming very rewarding as well. As an Economics major I have
been fortunate enough to work with professors from the Institute
for Management Studies. This has allowed me to work on an independent
study of Williamsport’s economy for my Scholar’s project
and become involved in tutoring Introduction to Macroeconomics.
As a member of the soccer team at Lycoming
College I have had an opportunity to contribute to a successful team
and hone my skills of prioritizing and time management. Everyone
hears about the importance of time management when they enter
college, and it is very important. Through the Peer Athlete
Mentoring Program, I have assisted fellow teammates through
tutoring, advice and support for balancing sports, school work.
Being an economics major has helped me think in
terms of micro and macro. The activities I have outlined are similar
to that view in that they seem to be "my experience," but they
really are reflected in the larger environment that is Lycoming
College, central Pennsylvania, and as the summer business experience
in London proved, globally.
