Creative Writing

The Creative Writing major is designed for students who wish to continue their study beyond Lycoming in a Master of Fine Arts (MFA or MA) program, and/or for students who aspire to careers as professional writers, editors, publishers, teachers, and other related professions.

The Creative Writing Program is an institutional member of the National Associated Writing Programs and offers a highly personalized and comprehensive program. The program is led by two professional writers: Dr. Sascha Feinstein, a poet and editor, and Dr. G.W. Hawkes, a short story writer and novelist. Collectively, they have published fifteen books and won several national awards.

Most creative writing courses are taught as smaller productive workshops where students focus on writing, analysis, language, voice, and tone. Each year, several Lycoming creative writing graduates are rewarded for their intense, creative work by being offered admission to the finest graduate writing programs in the country.
