Mission Statement

CSC's Purpose

The purpose of the Community Service Center is to act as a liaison and facilitator for community service opportunities between local agencies and the college community.  The Center helps students looking for volunteer opportunities with their interests or career goals in mind find a local agency best suited for them.  We remain in correspondence with local agencies keeping informed of their work and what type of student would best fit their needs.

Mission Statement

Connect, Serve, Learn

The Community Service Center of Lycoming College acts as a liaison between students, faculty, staff, and community organizations in the greater Williamsport area.  The Center provides an environment for student learning through service and reflection.  Students are challenged to fulfill their civic responsibility and explore who they are in relationship to their creator, peers, and those in need.

Community Service Center Information

Community service is an integral part of the LYCOMING COLLEGE experience. The Freshman Experience through the FYRST Program involves incoming students in selected community service opportunities throughout the fall semester. Service organizations on campus, Habitat for Humanity, Circle K, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Study Buddy and FLOAT tutoring programs, Best Buddies, and Partners in Golf provide a wide variety of service programs in addition to over 90 non-profit community based agencies.

The Center provides resources and support for service-learning within the curriculum. One elective in the distribution requirement is a community service class-Syllabus.

The Service Scholarship program places freshman student recipients in leadership positions with various campus and community service programs.  Applications are available through the Admissions Office at the beginning of the Spring semester.
