A glove box allows reactions to be set up and run in a controlled inert
atmosphere, free from oxygen and moisture. Our glove box is an MBraun Labmaster
130 with two ports (to allow both large and small items to be taken into and out
of the glove box easily), an electronic control system, oxygen and moisture
detectors, and catalytic scrubbers. It was acquired in 2002 with funding from
the National Science Foundation (the total grant of $63,777 was for the glove
box, infra-red and
ultraviolet-visible spectrometers).
