Quiz 7a Practice, Chemistry 111, Lycoming College, Mar. 30, 2005, Dr. Mahler
Note – this incorporates the material from last week’s practice sheet:
Fair Game: All previous material (Ch. 11, 12, 13, 14, 15). New Material covered as of Monday, March 28 – Chapter 16 Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Relevant Homework: Ch. 16 Problems 19, 23, 26, 29, 33, 35, 38, 41, 45, 48, 51, 54, 57, 61, 64.
1) Possible essay / short answer type questions: Chapter 16 Review Questions 1 – 10 (page 727)
2) Determine Ksp for the following slightly soluble compounds, given their molar solubilities: a) AgI, 8.9 x 10-9 M b) Ca(OH)2, 0.011 M c) BaCrO4 9.0 x 10-5 M d) Hg2Cl2 5.2 x 10-7 M.
3) From the Ksp value (look it up here and below) for the following slightly soluble compounds, calculate the molar solubility: a) AgBr b) CaF2 c) Ag3AsO4 (note was Ag3PO4 but this is not in our book for Ksp)
4) Calculate the molar solubility of AgCl in 0.20 M NaCl.
5) Decide whether a precipitate will form when the following solutions are mixed: a) 5.0 mL of 0.10 M KI and 1.00 L of 0.010 M AgNO3 b) 1.0 mL of 1.0 M K2SO4, 10.0 mL of 0.20 M CaCl2 and enough water to dilute the solution to 100.0 mL.
6) Problems 16.63 and 16.65.
