Arthur A. Haberberger ’59 has enjoyed a successful career as an investor, consultant and senior executive for several companies. Since Art was named to the Lycoming College Board of Trustees in 2000 and, subsequently, its Chairman in 2005, he and his wife, Joanne, have been focused on helping to build a brighter future for the College.
Art was formerly CEO, Director and Founder of American Equipment Leasing; Chairman of the Board, President, and CEO of American Real Estate Investment and Development Co.; and President, CEO, and Director of Horrigan American, Inc. Throughout his career, he has served as a consultant and advisor to numerous businesses and director of many companies.
This year, Art succeeded Daniel G. Fultz ’57 as Chairman of the Campaign for a Brighter Future, the College’s $42 million comprehensive campaign. Dan recently achieved emeritus status with the Board of Trustees and will now serve as Honorary Chair of the campaign.
“We thank Dan for everything he has done for the College and this campaign,” says Art. “I’m looking forward to working with him to achieve our goal. The College provides a great product, but it’s an expensive product to deliver. Unless we can raise this amount of money, it puts us at a competitive disadvantage with other schools.”
The Haberbergers reside in Reading, Pa., and support the College through outright and planned giving to the endowment. “We’re hoping that our scholarships will grow through the years and be able to help more and more students,” remarks Joanne. “We’re very much committed to leaving something behind.” Art says, “I can’t think of a better way to spend some of our money than to help educate these kids. We enjoy helping young people get through school.”
To support the campaign, Art and Joanne started The Chairman’s Challenge, in which they will invest $5,000 toward a new endowed scholarship established with an individual’s gift of $20,000. Art says, “It is a crowning moment when you receive a thank you from a student who is able to attend the College and benefit from the help that we’re giving them.” Joanne concurs, “To watch the students come through the gates and come down to participate in the ceremony and receive their diplomas is a really moving experience.”
Through the generous support of the Haberbergers and so many others, generations of students will have the opportunity to experience the benefits of receiving a diploma from Lycoming College.
