FACULTY AND STAFF: Meet Neil Boyd

        Dr. Neil Boyd is an Assistant Professor of Management. He holds a doctorate in Public Administration from Penn State University, a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Penn State University, and a Masters Degree in Experimental Psychology (with a focus in Industrial/Organizational Psychology) from the University of Notre Dame. Prior to his appointment at Lycoming College in the fall of 2006, Dr. Boyd was on the faculty at Penn State University.

        Dr. Boyd has consulted with many organizations, and he is especially committed to helping organizations develop skills and capacities that enable them to change and become more innovative. Recently, Dr. Boyd has been conducting research in relation to organization development and management innovations in private firms, non-profit organizations, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He is interested in large-scale organization-wide change, as well as smaller-scale change related to organizational behavior, and human resource management interventions. In addition, he continues to explore the use of action research methods in organizational contexts, and social justice and organizational democracy at work. Finally, he is interested in studying the interrelationship of organizational studies and community development.

        Dr. Boyd’s work has appeared in a variety of publication outlets including Administrative Theory and Praxis, The Journal of Community Psychology, and the Encyclopedia of Public Administration and Public Policy. He was the 2005 recipient of the James Jordan Award for Teaching Excellence at Penn State University, and the 2005 recipient of the Multicultural Excellence in Teaching Award at Penn State University. Dr. Boyd is a member of the Academy of Management and he has been recognized as a “Best Reviewer” in 2004 and 2005 by the Public and Non-Profit Division of the Academy. In addition to his scholarly work, Dr. Boyd writes a monthly business column for the Williamsport Sun-Gazette.

        Insider Info: Dr. Boyd played baseball for Bloomsburg University in the mid-80’s and he still loves baseball. He plays in a wood-bat league in Harrisburg, and he coaches Senior Little League and American Legion teams in his hometown of Camp Hill. Dr. Boyd is married to Victoria, and he has two children (Matthew and Anna). The family enjoys traveling, eating new culinary delights, theatre, art, and classic rock.
