Text Box: On Thursday, June 22, 2006, 11 high school students from Expedition Susquehanna took a detour from their River voyage and ventured down to Loyalsock Creek to meet with Lycoming College’s Clean Water Institute (CWI). They started their day with speakers from Bucknell and Bloomsburg University who discussed stream ecology. The students participated in general water chemistry techniques and learned about macro invertebrates with Dr. Zimmerman’s CWI interns. The students were fascinated by the Hellbender salamanders and were able to get a better view of the Hellbenders’ habitat while snorkeling. The day ended at World’s End State Park where the students took part in electro shocking fish on Double Run and identifying macro invertebrates. Before picnicking, the students heard most members who are involved in the Susquehanna River Heartland Coalition for Environmental Studies (SRHCES) speak about how they are involved in the River group.
