GREETINGS
Hello! My name is Katie Swanson, but my friends call me Kate. I am a Biology major and a pre-med student with an Environmental Science minor, here at good ol' Lycoming. I am originally from Eldred, Pennsylvania, but I attended high school in Portville, New York.
I chose to attend Lycoming College because I was looking for a small school with professors that would provide me with the personal attention that I was accustomed to. Lycoming is small enough so that you can get to know people very well and make new friends very easily, but it is still large enough so that you are always encountering new faces.
The Biology department is what first caught my eye at Lycoming. The Biology professors are amazing and they provide a lot of hands on activities, which are very useful. After I graduate from Lycoming, I plan to attend pharmacy school to become a pharmacist. The best part is, I can be versatile with what I want to do and leave my options open as well. Plus, there is still room to change my mind (which I have done, a lot!). Because of my love for the out-of-doors and my minor in Environmental Science, I worked over the summer as an intern on Buffalo Creek, which I wouldn't trade for anything!
I met many of my friends here at Lycoming, through being a member of the Women's Soccer Team. Aside from soccer, I also have many friends that don't play sports, such as my roommate, Allie. Lycoming is a tight knit community, with excellent professors in all areas of study. It's not every college, where you can go to a professor's house for a picnic, and enjoy every minute that you are there. It's not every college, where you can go on various field trips to places such as Longwood gardens near Philadelphia, or to the Montour Preserve to go bird watching. It's Lycoming, where you can be who you want to be, do what you want to do, and come out of it with amazing memories.
