WELCOME TO THE BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT
Your interest in biology is a wise choice as the demand for biology majors in research, health care, education and the environment continues to grow.
The Biology department is one of the largest on campus. The success of the program can be attributed to four factors: excellent facilities, dedicated teaching, quality advising, and fun-loving, hard-working students.
Lycoming College is home to the Heim Biology and Chemistry Building, one of the finest undergraduate science facilities in the East. It features laboratories for research in tissue culture, molecular biology, ecology, plant science, endocrinology and radiation biology. There is also an aquarium room, greenhouse and an animal lab.
Eight teacher-scholars comprise the biology faculty. All are seasoned professionals; all are full-time and all have a doctorate. As a team, our faculty help shape and develop biology careers by guiding students through a core of courses including microbiology, genetics, human physiology, ecology, and plant science. Beyond the core are numerous electives, independent research opportunities and internships tailored to your particular interests and career paths.
