FACULTY AND STAFF: Meet TERENCE MCGARVEY

Assistant Professor

B.A., Hofstra University
M.S., Long Island University
Ph.D., Loyola University of Chicago
Dr. McGarvey came to Lycoming's Biology department from the teaching staff of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. A graduate of Hofstra Univeristy, he has a master's degree in bioeducation from the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University and a doctorate in anatomy from Loyola University in Chicago. He also held a post-doctoral fellowship at the Medical College of Pennsylvania. He has had 21 research articles published. Dr. Mc Garvey's research interests include transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder, which is the fifth most common cancer in the United States. While at the University of Pennsylvania, he and his collaborators identified a novel gene transcript designated transitional epithelial response gene, which seems to have a role in the progression of bladder cancer. One of Dr. McGarvey's professional goals is to involve Lycoming students in his research of bladder cancer development and progression.
