COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.—Head coach Roger Crebs took his Warrior wrestling team to the Ursinus Tournament on Sunday, November 18. Lycoming had wrestled the day before at the Messiah Duals, taking two of three matches. Crebs rested some of his roster for “The Fall Brawl,” but still entered wrestlers in all but one weight class.
At 125 pounds, Warriors Eric Grecco (Brockway, PA) and John Estable (Mount Joy, PA) met in the consolation bracket, with Estable winning. Estable eventually made it to the semifinals of the third-place bracket.
At 133, freshman Andrew Lewis (Wyalusing, PA) fell in the third-place final to Thiel’s Jeff Langdon.
Warriors James Dolak (Oley Valley, PA) and John Mastrobuono (Mendham, NJ) both made it to the 157-pound third-place semifinals. Dolak initially reached the championship semis.
At 165, Eddie Brown (Rutherford, NJ) took four straight rounds in the third-place bracket before having to bow out of the final because of an injury.
At 174, freshman Troy Hayre (Falls Church, VA) took second place by beating TCNJ’s Mike Denver to reach the finals. Hayre ultimately fell to TCNJ’s Greg Osgood in the championship bout.
At 197, senior captain Troy Hansen (Westtown, PA) grabbed third place by pinning TCNJ’s Shawn Vanwingerden in the consolation finals. Hansen originally made it to the semifinals of the championship bracket.
Lycoming will now rest over Thanksgiving break before gearing up for a December 5 conference battle at Ithaca College. The Warriors will be home on January 5, hosting the PA/NY Duals at Lamade Gymnasium. SUNY-Oswego, King’s College and the Rochester Institute of Technology will be in the tournament.
