ADA, Ohio—Lycoming’s wrestlers traveled to the Ohio Northern University Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 15. The day-long event included 18 teams, most of which were split into multiple lineups. Lycoming’s first team placed 14th in the final standings, while Lycoming Two finished in 28th place.
Senior Warrior captain Matt Miller (Muncy, PA) placed fourth in the 197-pound bracket, while sophomore Zach Frederick (West Chester, PA) finished in sixth place at 149 pounds.
Miller, who was seeded fourth, pinned Wilmington's John Waggy at 2:15 in the second round of the championships. He then pinned Manchester's Matt Zickafoose at 3:20 in the quarter-finals. However, Miller was forced to forfeit the semi-finals and third place bouts for medical reasons.
Frederick, who was unseeded, pinned Joe Walker of Waynesburg in the opening round of the championships, then lost a 10-6 decision to #6 seed Chad Woods in the second round. Frederick won an 11-1 decision over Ryan Ross of Campbellsville, a 3-1 decision over Olivet’s Nick Leon and a 14-3 decision over #8 seed John Sasfy in the wrestlebacks. Frederick then won a 7-6 bout over #1 seed Joe Newland of Heidelberg in the quarter-finals, but dropped a 1-0 decision to Heidelberg’s Zach Mizer in the semis and was forced to take a medical forfeit in the fifth-place match.
The Warriors host R.I.T., SUNY-Oswego and King’s at the PA/NY Duals on Saturday, Jan. 5, and then host Gettysburg at Lamade Gymnasium on Tuesday, Jan. 8. The 14th annual Budd Whitehill Duals will take place in Lamade on the weekend of Jan. 11-12.
