GRANTHAM, Pa.—Lycoming College’s Wrestling team lost it’s first match, but won the final two at the Messiah College Duals on Saturday, November 17. The Warriors did not face Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference foe Messiah. That match-up with the Falcons will have to wait until January 18 at Lamade Gymnasium.
In their opening contest, Lycoming fell 28-15 to a powerful Kutztown State team. Head coach Roger Crebs garnered an outstanding recruiting class in the offseason and it is already paying dues. Freshmen Michael Maurer (Towanda, PA), Tom Barger (Clearfield, PA) and Eric Grecco (Brockway, PA) all had wins in against Kutztown.
In the second match, Lycoming defeated Wheaton (Ill.) 31-14. Grecco and Maurer won again, as well as fellow frosh Andrew Lewis (Wyalusing, PA). Sophomore 149-pounder Zach Frederick (West Chester, PA) pinned his opponent, while sophomore James Dolak (Oley Valley, PA) and senior Troy Hansen (Westtown, PA) were also victorious.
The Warriors took on a depleted Waynesburg team in the final match-up and won 48-3. Waynesburg forfeited four contests and topped Lycoming only at heavyweight. Barger, Maurer, Frederick, Dolak and sophomore Justin Waycaster (Watsontown, PA) all defeated their opponents.
Lycoming travels immediately to the Ursinus Tournament on Sunday, November 18 and then faces conference opponent Ithaca College on December 5.
