WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Lycoming College’s wrestling team (11-5) defeated Elizabethtown College (5-10) by a score of 30-12 on Thursday night at Lamade Gymnasium. It was the final match of the year for the Warriors, who completed their 15th straight season with
10 or more wins.
At 125 pounds, Lycoming freshman Walker Faison (Virginia Beach, Va.) pinned Marty Harnish at 2:02 of the first period for his sixth straight dual-match victory, four by falls. Faison is 6-0 in dual matches for the year.
Freshman Andrew Lewis (Wyalusing, Pa.) represented the Warriors at 133 pounds. Lewis took a 3-2 decision over Eric Rhoads to put Lyco up 6-0.
Freshman Tom Barger (Clearfield, Pa.) wrestled 141 for Lycoming, winning a 4-2 decision over Drew Winegar, which put the Warriors ahead 12-0. Freshman Mike Maurer (Towanda, Pa.) then lost a 7-1 decision to Bud Croswell at 149 to give the Blue Jays their first team points of the night.
At 157, E-town’s Jereme Heisey took down Warrior sophomore Zach Frederick (West Chester, Pa.) with just 20 seconds left in the final period to secure a 6-4 victory.
Sophomore 165-pounder Chris Dahlheimer (Felton, Pa.) increased his dual-match record to 11-1 for the season by pinning Mike Lusier in just 49 seconds, giving the Warriors an 18-6 lead. Dahlheimer is currently ranked sixth in the nation in is weight class by Brute/Adidas on intermatwrestle.com.
At 174, freshman Troy Hayre (Falls Church, Va.) pinned Josh Cook at 2:51 to put the Warriors on top 24-6. Lycoming junior Bryan Kopesky (Philipsburg, N.J.) battled Bill Meaney, but fell in an 8-6 decision.
Senior Matt Miller (Muncy, Pa.) continued to dominate as the eighth ranked wrestler in the nation at 197 in Division III. Miller pinned Josh Herbert in 3:29, giving the Warriors a 30-9 lead.
At heavyweight, E-town’s Mike Daub took a 9-4 decision over senior Troy Hansen (Westtown, N.Y.) to set the final team score at 30-12 in favor of the blue and gold.
Lycoming senior heavyweight George Rupp, Jr. (Hanover, Pa.) lost a 9-3 decision in an exhibition bout following the match. Earlier in the evening Cody Billotte (Frenchville, Pa.) lost a 125-pound exhibition bout by technical fall at 4:36, while 157-pounder Zach Ewbank (Dillsburg, Pa.) won by fall at 3:37 in an exhibition.
Warrior head coach Roger Crebs will take several wrestlers to the NCAA national qualifier in Oneonta, N.Y. on Feb. 23. The Division III National Tournament will be held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, March 7-8.
