Lycoming College wrestling coach Roger Crebs maintains a high level of excellence with his Warrior teams. In 2007-08, 165-pound wrestler Chris Dahlheimer and 197-pound senior Matt Miller qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships after winning individual titles at the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Tournament. Miller went on to claim the NCAA Division III title.

Lycoming placed second in the Middle Atlantic Conference championships in 2006-07 and sent 133-pound wrestler Sean Cullen to the NCAA Championships.

The Warriors have recorded six 20-win seasons in the program’s history, most recently in 2002-03. Crebs’ 1996-97 squad recorded the program’s only undefeated season going 22-0. That year, the Warriors won the MAC and East Regional championships, the Budd Whitehill Division III National Duals title, and took seventh-place at the NCAA Division III National Championships, where three Warriors earned All-American honors.

Crebs was named the NCAA Division III Coach of the Year in 1997. The honor was his second national award as Lycoming’s head coach. He was also named Division III Rookie Coach of the Year following his first season.

In 2007-2008, Lycoming realizes a new beginning as a first-year member of the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (see page 4). Lycoming has won five MAC titles and three East Regional crowns since Crebs took over as head coach. The Warriors look for similar success in the Empire Conference.
In addition to his teams’ prosperity, Crebs has also seen great individual success in his career.

Crebs has coached three national champions, a national runner-up, a third-place national-finisher, five fourth-place national-finishers, three fifth-place national-finishers, four sixth-place national-finishers, two seventh-place national finishers, and an eighth-place national-finisher. A total of 44 wresters have qualified for the National Tournament under Crebs.

Crebs uses an old school philosophy of sticking to the basics and developing a strong work ethic. He followed that philosophy during his days as a wrestler and and it has proved successful in his coaching career. Crebs was a three-time MAC champion and national qualifier from 1984-86.

During his undergraduate years, Crebs learned from Hall of Fame coach Budd Whitehill, who amassed 376 wins at Lycoming from 1956 to 1993.

Following his Lycoming wrestling career, Crebs was head coach for five years at William Tennent High School in Warminster, Pa., and assistant coach at Ursinus College in 1992.
