WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Lycoming’s women’s tennis team (3-6 , 1-3) won its third match of the season on Saturday, October 6, defeating the Albright College Lady Lions seven matches to two. Lycoming swept their three doubles matches and took four of six singles contests against the conference opponent.
Lycoming’s number one doubles team of Amiee Snyder (Kempton, PA) and Rebecca Reynolds (South Williamsport, PA) won 8-6, while the number two team of Kelly Drinkard (Seaville, NJ) and Erika Niemann (Taylor, MI) claimed victory, 9-7, in a tight match.
In singles play, Snyder fell 6-4, 7-5, but Reynolds put Lycoming back on track with a 6-4, 6-2 win. Niemann took a 6-4, 7-5 match, while Drinkard won 6-4, 6-4. Lady Warrior junior Jessica Souchik (Lewis Run, PA) was victorious at number five singles 6-2, 6-1 and senior Emily Ruhl (Williamsport, PA) fell 7-6 and 3-2 in a shortened match.
The team victory represents the final conference match of the season for the Lady Warriors and their first conference win. There are two more matches on the women's tennis schedule, then Lycoming's players will get ready for the MAC Individual Tournament scheduled for October 20-21.
The Lady Warriors play again on Wednesday, October 10 at King’s College in Wilkes-Barre at 3:30 p.m. They then return home to face PSU-Altoona at Bruce Henry Park at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, October 12.
