WEST HYANNISPORT, Mass. – Four Lycoming women’s lacrosse players were named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association All-Metro Region team, as announced by the IWLCA. Megan Wallenhorst headlines the list as a first team selection and is joined by Sarah Wingerden, Heather Suit and Danielle Gargiulo as second team honorees.
Wallenhorst continues to add to her postseason accolades after garnering first team All-Region honors for the second time in her career. She was named a third team All-American in 2007 after picking up first team All-Region honors.
Wallenhorst, who was selected as the NCAA Division III Player of the Week once during the season, graduated as Lycoming's all-time career scoring leader with 233 career goals and 276 points. She led the team this season in goals (56), points (75) and shots on goal (77), marking her fourth consecutive season as the Lady Warriors leading scorer.
Wallenhorst, named the team’s Best Offensive Player, was also selected to play in the IWLCA North/South All-Star game, which will be held June 14 in Downingtown, Pa. She will be joined by fellow senior Kristina Peacock, the team’s co-MVP, who was selected as one of just two goalies on the South roster.
Senior Heather Suit garners her first All-Region honor after leading the team with 31 assists and ranking second with 54 points. She leaves Lycoming as the all-time career record holder in assists, tallying 118 career helpers.
Junior Sarah Wingerden, Lycoming’s other co-MVP, earned her second consecutive All-Region honor after being named to the first team in 2007. Wingerden started in 15 games this season and finished the year with 29 goals and 41 points.
Sophomore Danielle Gargiulo earns her first All-Region accolade as a member of the second team. Gargiulo, named the team’s Best Defensive Player this year, recorded 26 ground balls for the second consecutive season and caused 17 turnovers.
Head coach Kara Reber also announced the annual team awards along with the release of the All-Metro Region teams.
Sophomore defender Ashley Steel was named the team’s Most Improved Player after recording 17 ground balls and causing eight turnovers in 12 games this season.
Junior Erin Durisin and sophomore Sammi Jo Bell share the Ideal Teammate Award. Durisin appeared in eight games with three starts this season and recorded three ground balls. Bell appeared in all 17 games this season and recorded 12 goals and four assists for 16 points. She also picked up 21 ground balls and caused 19 turnovers.
Sophomore Jackie Calbi was honored with the Coaches Award after appearing in five games with one start and recording one goal.
