CLEVELAND, Ohio—Lycoming College alumna Jennifer Reimer ‘94 has been named the new head women’s basketball coach at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Reimer was a starting Lady Warrior point guard for four years, a two-year captain, and first team All-Conference in her senior year.
Following her career at Lycoming, Reimer was a graduate assistant at Ohio Northern University, and then a head coach at Juniata College. She then coached at Mount Union, and most recently, was the head coach at Allegheny College for seven years.
Case Western fans hope that Reimer is the answer for a struggling Spartan team that went 9-16 last year. Reimer inherited a last-place Allegheny squad and promptly turned the team around to go 20-6 in her first season. Reimer eventually became the winningest coach in Allegheny basketball history, finishing as the NCAC runner-up twice and a six-time NCAC semi-finalist.
Reimer looks forward to the opportunity to compete in the University Athletic Association (UAA), one of the nation's best basketball conferences. "I want to be competing for national titles," said Reimer. "And when you have the top four or five teams in your conference ranked nationally, it's a great opportunity."
Reimer recently had her first team meeting, but she already knows the philosophy that she will impress on her Spartans. "We are just going to pursue excellence one day at a time," says Reimer. She has noted that her seniors are already embracing leadership roles by conducting informal workouts in the gym. "They're doing a great job of getting the team in shape and ready to go for the first practice," said Reimer, adding, "I'm excited to be a part of Case Western and I can't wait for the season to start.”
