ROCHESTER, N.Y.—Lycoming’s womens basketball team defeated host school St. John Fisher by a score of 63-59 on Saturday, November 17 to claim the Courtyard-Penfield Tournament championship. St. John Fisher is NCAA Division III’s all-time winningest women’s basketball program.
The Lady Warriors were led by junior Andrea Cooper’s (Hollidaysburg, PA) 15 points in the championship, as well as sophomore Jessica Nabholz’ (Cressona, PA) 14 points.
Freshman forward Kaitlyn Ober (Lititz, PA) knocked in 10 important points in the paint, while sophomore Rebecca Leid (Denver, PA) recorded eight points.
Sophomore Allison Mock (State College, PA) sank a pair of three point shots on the day to share the team lead with Cooper.
Following the final game, Cooper was named to the All-Tournament team and Nabholz was given the Tournament Most Valuable Player award.
Head Coach Christen Ditzler pointed to Nabholz’ contribution off the bench as the difference in the game.
“We stepped up defensively today and battled with a strong inside team,” said Ditzler. “I thought we did a great job of really controlling the boards in the second half and setting our own tempo.”
The Lady Warriors travel next to Misericordia University on Tuesday, November 20 for a 6:00 p.m. game before Thanksgiving.
