PHOENIX, Ariz.—During the holiday break, Lycoming’s women’s basketball team traveled to the Grand Canyon Classic basketball tournament at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona. The Lady Warriors defeated Purchase College by a score of 67-56 on Dec. 29 and then fell to Villa Julie College 68-49 on Dec. 31.
Against Purchase College, sophomore point guard Jessica Zerbee (Duncansville, PA) scored a team-high 12 points, while sophomores Becky Leid (Denver, PA) and Alicia Engler (Williamsport, PA) scored nine points apiece.
In the loss to Villa Julie, freshman forward Rebecca Spencer (Granville Summit, PA) led Lycoming with 10 points, while junior Andrea Cooper (Hollidaysburg, PA) finished with nine points. Leid and senior Jamie Buriak (Frackville, PA) each grabbed five rebounds for the game.
The Lady Warriors host the Lycoming “Hoops for Hounds” Basketball Classic this weekend at Lamade Gymnasium. The event benefits the Lycoming County SPCA. On Friday, Jan. 4, Lycoming plays Buffalo State at 6 p.m., while Rutgers-Camden and Fredonia square off at 8 p.m. On Saturday, Lycoming plays Fredonia at 3 p.m., while Rutgers Camden and Buffalo State tip off at 1 p.m.
