ANNVILLE, Pa. – Commonwealth Conference opponent Lebanon Valley (17-2, 3-2) edged Lycoming’s women’s basketball team (10-9, 1-4) in overtime by a score of 76-75 on Tuesday at LVC Gymnasium. The game was played in front of an arena-record 1,310 fans on “Think Pink” breast cancer awareness night.
The Lady Warriors were led by Allison Mock's (State College, Pa.) 17 points, including three three-pointers. Sophomore Samantha Ruby (Thomasville, Pa.) also hit three threes. Lycoming went 11 of 24 from beyond the arc for the game, but Lebanon Valley controlled the glass, out-rebounding the blue and gold 43 to 32.
The nearly capacity crowd cheered loudly as the game went back and forth throughout regulation. The contest featured 20 lead changes and 18 ties. Neither team led by more than seven at any point.
Lycoming appeared to take the upper hand late when Mock hit two foul shots to put the Warriors up by five with 1:16 to go. However, after an LVC basket, Megan Bish drained a three to tie the game, sending the crowd into a frenzy.
In overtime, Lady Warrior junior Andrea Cooper (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) converted a three-point play to give Lycoming a three-point lead, but a basket and two foul shots by Lori Lidlow in the last minute gave Lebanon Valley the win.
The Lady Warriors host their own “Think Pink” Day on Saturday, when they face Widener University at Lamade Gymnasium at 1 p.m. Please wear pink to the game to show your support of breast cancer awareness.
