ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Lycoming College volleyball team split a pair of matches at the opening day of the Hartwick Tournament on Friday, Oct. 17. The Lady Warriors fell to St. Lawrence in the opening game before bouncing back to defeat Hartwick in the nightcap.

Lycoming (12-16) dropped the first two sets against St. Lawrence, 25-18 and 25-16, but battled back to win the third set, 25-20, to force a fourth set. In the fourth, St. Lawrence earned a 25-21 win to seal the 3-1 victory in the match.

Heather Frantz (Pine Grove, Pa.) led the Lady Warriors with 17 kills in the first match.

Lycoming bounced back to win the second match of the night, 3-1, against the host school. The Lady Warriors won the match in four sets (27-25, 14-25, 25-22, 25-18).

Frantz posted team-highs of 12 kills and 24 digs in the second match and was joined in double-digit kill figures by Beth Machella (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), with 11.

Amy Sharlow (Fair Lawn, N.J.) handed out a team-high 29 assists while also recording 13 digs.

Lycoming sits second after the first day and will play Utica (0-2 on Friday) at noon on Saturday, Oct. 18, for a chance to advance to the championship match of the tournament.
