GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Lycoming College volleyball team dropped both of its matches at the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic on Saturday, Sept. 6. The Lady Warriors dropped matches to Scranton and Cortland to finish the two-day tournament with a record of 1-3.
After finishing second in its pool, Lycoming faced Scranton in the first match of the day on Saturday, falling 3-0 with set scores of 25-10, 25-15 and 25-23.
Junior Abby Myers (Shippensburg, Pa.) led the way offensively with five kills and six assists. Sophomore Megan Schulze (Reedsville, Pa.) had four kills and three blocks in the first match. Freshman Amy Sharlow (Fair Lawn, N.J.) handled most of the setting, giving out 10 assists.
The Lady Warriors bounced back for the opening set of their second match of the day, defeating SUNY Cortland 25-10. Lycoming faltered after the first set, dropping the next three by scores of 25-16, 25-22 and 25-21 to fall 3-1.
Senior Heather Frantz (Pine Grove, Pa.) posted double-digit kills with 10 and also recorded eight digs and one block to lead the effort in the second match. Schulze posted seven kills with Myers adding five kills and 14 assists. Sharlow continued to lead the team in assists, registering 15 against Cortland. Fellow freshman Emily Abel (Spring Grove, Pa.) recorded 17 digs in the match.
With the losses, the Lady Warriors drop to 5-3 on the season.
Lycoming is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Lancaster Bible. That match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
