WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College volleyball team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 3-0 win over Mt. Aloysius (1-3) on Wednesday night, Sept. 3, at Lamade Gymnasium.
Wednesday’s matchup was the second meeting between the two teams in less than a week, with the outcome remaining the same. On Friday night, Aug. 29, Lycoming defeated Mt. Aloysius 3-0 at the Mounties' tournament in Cresson, Pa.
The Lady Warriors won the match with set scores of 25-22, 25-18 and 25-10. The team has yet to drop a set this season.
Senior Heather Frantz (Pine Grove, Pa.) led the offensive attack with seven kills and three service aces. She also recorded 13 digs in the match. Sophomore Megan Schulze (Reedsville, Pa.) had five kills and three blocks (1 solo, 2 assist) while senior Michelle Burpoe (Marlboro, N.Y.) and junior Beth Machella (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) each had four kills. Burpoe’s four kills came on seven attempts for a team-high .571 hitting percentage.
Freshman Amy Sharlow (Fair Lawn, N.J.) handed out nine assists while landing four service aces and recording seven digs. Junior Abby Myers (Shippensburg, Pa.) led the team in assists with 16 while also recording two service aces.
The Lady Warriors will travel to Gettysburg this weekend, Sept. 5-6, to compete in the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic. Lycoming is scheduled to face teams from Salisbury and Eastern Mennonite in the opening round of the tournament.
