Lady Warriors fall in five-setter at Albright

SchulzeREADING, Pa. – The Lycoming College volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision in five sets against Albright on Wednesday, Oct. 15, in Reading.

The Lady Warriors opened the match with wins in each of the first two sets, 25-15 and 25-19.

Albright battled back to win the third set, 25-18, and the fourth set, 25-21, to force a decisive fifth set.

In the fifth set, the Lions carried their momentum to a 15-11 win to seal the match.

Heather Frantz (Pine Grove, Pa.) was outstanding on the night, finishing with 16 kills and a hitting percentage of .350 while also recording 15 digs.

Megan Schulze (Reedsville, Pa.) had four kills and six blocks while Katie Johnson (Newville, Pa.) and Beth Machella (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) each had four kills.

Amy Sharlow (Fair Lawn, N.J.) handled the primary setting duties, handing out 22 assists 17 digs.

Emily Abel (Spring Grove, Pa.) posted a team-high 23 digs in the match.

Lycoming finished the match with 35 kills and 18 errors in 133 attempts for a .128 hitting percentage. Albright landed 41 kills and 25 errors in 130 attempts for a .123 percentage.

With the loss, the Lady Warriors drop to 11-15 overall and 0-4 in the Commonwealth Conference. Albright improves to 5-20 overall and 1-3 in the league.

Lycoming will compete in the Hartwick Tournament this weekend. Matches are scheduled for Friday, Oct. 17 and Saturday, Oct. 18.
